Our Story
The Start
At Uptomic, our founders Kevin and Michael have a combined experience of over 40 years working on large software projects. They have firsthand experience in managing large staffing contracts and matching people to jobs, and they understand the need for automation to manage high-volume contracts. They initially developed an application to review job descriptions, candidate skills, and score candidates based on skill occurrence, duration, and recency. This led to the creation of Uptomic, which aimed to make available this matching service to staffing firms. This all-in-one solution, provided new features however, replicated a large percentage of already existing applicant tracking capabilities.
Pivot 1
Recognizing the need for a simplified offering which provided the new essential features and demonstrates the value quickly, Uptomic introduced a CV reformatting service. However, initial feedback of the tools accuracy and precision was disappointing, as the CV parsing and AI solution could not perfectly parse and reformat CVs. This prompted a year-long effort to develop the perfect parsing solution, during which Kevin and Michael continued working as IT consultants and experienced firsthand the challenges of poor data quality and lack of curated training data for people analytics projects and AI-based solutions. This insight further confirmed the need for perfect data for AI enabled people analytics. Today, with huge interest in ChatGPT and other tools the data precision and security is even more important.
Market Signal
As the enthusiasm for AI in the HR space grew, so did the volume of CVs submitted during job applications. This increased the volume of data going into Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS), which, without a precise and accurate parsing tool, led to poor data quality, with 70% of CVs inaccurately parsed. These inaccuracies ruined the effectiveness of AI tools like ChatGPT and resulted in high costs for data curation and cleansing.
Pivot 2
Solution. Kevin and Michael quickly realised that improving data quality is key to creating a highly accurate, personalized AI matching solution. They developed a machine-augmented approach with a user interface that enables quick validation of parsing output and tracking of data validation for each section of the CV. This hybrid human-machine approach ensures perfectly parsed and validated CVs are added to the ATS, setting the stage for successful people analytics projects.
